Note: Bessie talks about the eastern shores of Maryland and how they reminds her of Georgia. "Wilmington, Delaware, is worse than Maryland. They had a big whipping pole in the center of town in which all types of people were beaten for petty crimes, though they don't do it anymore."
Bessie recalls different men she knew who were sent to work on chain gangs. Once some chain gang operators brougt the prisoners into church by truck so they could participate in services.
