Note: Bessie doesn't remember her family talking about voting. She heard about the Ku Klux Klan in Florida -- they called them "gangs." Bessie remembers hearing about these gangs running black families from their homes. Alan Lomax says that Georgia was the natural home of the Ku Klux Klan. Bessie is surprised, she thought it was Alabama.
