Note: Jones discusses the great storm of 1928 that took place in Florida. Houses floated downstream, as did snakes, alligators, eels, and people. There were heroic rescues performed, but Bessie's friend Monica and her sister lost their husbands and babies. There were hundreds of bodies, white and black, loaded onto trucks and driven away to be thrown in big pits. Many bodies were eaten by animals and were never seen again.
