Note: When Jones was an adolescent, she did not care for boys. They were inconsiderate, and she preferred older men. She became pregnant at age 12 but did not know it until her mother realized it and told her she was "big," but she didn't understand. When she realized that a baby was coming, she hoped for a girl so she would have a companion to play with. Jones describes the attitude of her girl friends about her pregnancy.
