These recordings from Bell County, Kentucky, were not made by a Lomax but by Alan's erstwhile collaborator (on field trips in the Bahamas, Florida, and Georgia), Columbia professor Mary Elizabeth Barnicle. Due to their contemporary geographic and stylistic relevance to Alan Lomax's Eastern Kentucky collections, they've been digitized and cataloged for presentation here. In addition to her extensive documentation of a Pentecostal Holiness church service in Dorton Branch, Barnicle also made a number of recordings with banjoist-singer George "Shortbuckle" Roark.
