Note: Lomax note: "Tanners tramping green leather in the vats." Fes is renowned for its large tanneries, located near al-Qaraouine Mosque in Fes al-Bali. Raw skins are soaked in vats of colored dye, treated by workers immersed up to the waist, and then laid out on the roofs of neighboring buildings to dry in the sun.
About the session: A varied series of recordings from the medieval walled city (Fes al-Bali) on the third day of the Moussem of Moulay Idriss. First, a group of coppersmiths practicing their trade, then the festivities of the Moussem with accompanying religious songs and celebratory music.
