Northern Kentucky and Ohio 1938

Following his and his wife Elizabeth's long trip through Eastern Kentucky in late 1937, Alan Lomax visited Fort Mitchell in Northern Kentucky to record soldiers stationed there. He then traveled to Cincinnati for a radio barn-dance (the self-consciously commercialized hillbilly music at which he found distasteful) and then to record banjoist Pete Steele and his family in Hamilton, Ohio.
