Murrells Inlet 7/37

Sacred songs performed by Zackie Knox, Lillie Knox, Thelma Knox, “Mom” Tina Russell, Rev. Aaron Pinnacle, and a group of ditch-diggers led by Mike Maybank (using sacred texts for their work songs). Most if not all the recordings were made at the home of folklorist Genevieve W. Chandler. Also included are ballads, sacred songs, and contemporary hillbilly pieces by white singers Minnie Floyd, Mrs. Dal Johnson (a friend of Ms. Chandler’s, visiting from Rowland, N.C.—it is assumed Lomax felt obliged to record her), and several Richardson children.
