About the session: From Lomax's liner notes to "The Eastern Shores" LP on Prestige: "The Peerless Four [are] actually eight singers…The recording was made in a small church in Norfolk before an audience of young women, who applauded and spurred the singers on. The attempt was to recreate the excitement of a real performance in a church without the noise and interference that is inevitable in the actual situation."
