Note: This song was dubbed by Alan Lomax from a record. This is a toast song – three leads and nine men in chorus. There is very good accompaniment and the parts are extremely clear. It is named in honor of the man to whom the song is attributed – Vakhtang. These singers are from Makharadze district in Guria. Songs of this type are very popular in Guria. The Gurians sing these songs easily while others do not.
About the session: These recordings were made by Alan Lomax at Sidili, Eastern Georgia, recorded at 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 IPS. They contain speeches, recitations, and songs at a banquet given in his honor. The last recordings are dubbed from records played for Alan by his Georgian hosts. Lomax noted that the songs were very much like those found in Liguria. "For Georgian titles—look on boxes—explanatory announcement in Russian."
