Note: This is a work song (canto de hacha) for men to sing together when working a conuco (small plot of land for subsistence farming). Here it is played as a merengue in pambiche rhythm. Lomax titles it "Ombe" but, as a user points out, while the chorus does say "ombe" (derived from "hombre"), in this context "¡aye ombe!" is used as an expression of pity that directly translates to — and is similarly used in English as — "oh man!"
