Note: An indecisive battle between the Earl of Mar and the Duke of Argyle, in which the famous cattle rustler and Scottish folk hero, Robert Roy (Rob Roy) MacGregor, (March 7, 1671 – December 28, 1734) did or did not take part. It was rumored that he was in the pay of the English King or of the Duke of Argyle. During his lifetime, Rob Roy's life was the subject of a fictionalized biography by Daniel Defoe, Highland Rogue. He received a royal pardon in 1726.
