Note: David John Davis explains "Cosher Bailey Had an Engine" to Alan. It comes from Merthyr Tydvil and commemorates Richard Trevithick's invention of the steam engine. The song was composed about 1840-1850. He learned it from a Glamorgan magazine, but had heard it as a child. Davis recommends that Lomax look up a man named Huey Davis who knows many rhymes and "writes his own as well" (the mention of which elicts laughter from the rest of the choir).
