Note: Vera Hall explains that the church songs she learned from books did not endure for her like the old-time songs she learned from her family and friends. Older church members used to sing the old-time songs to energize the congregation before the preacher began his sermon. Hall picked up her singing style from the older members. She describes songs sung during services and their functions.
