Note: Laws No.19. According to Malcolm Laws, a black ballad recounting a showdown between Alfred Bounds, a deputy ("Duncan"), and Brady that took place in Lamar County, Mississippi in about 1900. Was most commonly found in Mississippi but also sung in Louisiana and East Texas. Alternatively, it may refer to an 1890 shooting in St. Louis, Missouri.
