From Ruby T. Lomax's field notes: "A few miles out from Newton we saw a neat white schoolhouse with Negro children playing in the yard. Several little girls were singing a ring game. We stopped and watched, looked up the principal and asked to interview the children about songs. The principal quickly understood our mission and soon had the entire school assembled in the largest of this Liberty High School. The children responded well and sang and recorded for about an hour."
