Augusta Crawford
Crawford was identified in Lomax's field notes as "Cecil Augusta." For many years his two performances were billed accordingly, and researchers wrote him off as a cipher. In 2019 a letter was discovered from Crawford to Lomax, asking for copies of the record he thought he might have appeared on. (Although his songs weren't issued until the 2000s.) Lomax had written "Sacred?" in the corner of this letter, evidence that he, for obvious reasons, had no recollection of such a performer.
