Dominican Republic 1/67

There are few notes on these recordings. Several of the performers announce that they are from the town of Sabaneta, but there are about a dozen places with this name in the Dominican Republic so the region is uncertain. Although the first few tracks are played by a Cibao-type accordion group, merengue típico cibaeño has been popular in other regions as well since at least the 1950s. (A user has pointed out [April 2022] that all of the performers have a very typical Cibaeño accent, so the Sabaneta they are referring to is very likely San Ignacio de Sabaneta in Santiago Rodriguez in the northwest region of the island known as El Cibao.)
