Note: People from Fitzgerald are referred to as northwestern people. The soil is good red clay, dependable for farming whether one is white or black. Dawson had black walnuts, which Jones would bring to Fitzgerald. They raised everything else themselves – potatoes, pecans, and pomegranates – which are useful and healthful. Pomegranates, Jones says, are mentioned in the Bible.
