Note: Paul Bowles (1910-1999) talks about the previous recording he made. Bowles, born in Queens, New York, was the author of novels such as The Sheltering Sky and The Spider's House, both of which dealt with Western visitors to Morocco. He himself was a longtime expatriate who settled in Tangier in 1947 and lived there the remainder of his life.
About the session: Speech samples and dubbed recordings from Tangier. First, a local stonemason is interviewed in Moroccan Arabic. Next, recordings from the personal collections of two famous expatriates— novelist Paul Bowles and writer/artist Brion Gysin.
